The Shuar are one of the few tribal groups to have successfully resisted the efforts of rivals and foreign powers to conquer them.  Their reputation started with the mighty Inca emire, which ruled a population of more than 12 million in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, but could never subject the Shuar.

The Shuar are indigenous people of Ecuador and Peru.  They are members of the Jivaroan people who are Amazonian tribes living at the headwaters of the Maranon River. They live in tropical rainfoest between the upper mountains of the Andes and the tropical rainforests and savannas of the Amazonian lowlands.

Now in the "new world" members of the Shuar communities continue to celebrate the traditions of their ancestors, preservation of the environment and more. At the same time interacting with the larger population for schools for the children, and other basic needs for all.
